Survey of Refractive Errors in Secondary School and Refractive Errors Based- School Screening in Vietnam

BACKGROUND: School-based visual acuity screening activities calculate the rates of students with possible refractive errors (REs). School staff informs results children’s parents and need for an in-depth examination to assist RE. AIM: The study aimed identify prevalence REs among secondary based school in some provinces Vietnam. METHODS: There are 4838 participating survey. All them were screened by trained including teachers nurses. Then, a sub-sample 1404 was randomly selected ophthalmologists. is set criteria cases low vision. We compared staff’s ophthalmologists’ difference methods. RESULTS: proportion untreated eye problems that uncorrected error currently quite high (at, respectively, 18.5% 24.6%), especially urban areas Da Nang Hai Duong provinces. Two three children RE have not received appropriate correction. screenings conducted target area sensitivity 60.9% specificity 93.8%. CONCLUSIONS: This indicates efforts toward detecting investments mitigate current issues school. suggest staffs nurses be better knowledge skills performing improve their performance.
